Cute... for an overpriced Tamagotchi June 10, 2007 The Lilac Pilgrim (Scotland) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
One of the kids growing up in the Pokemon generaion, I demanded this toy. I would exercise if I got it - by clipping it to my belt and walking around with it. Oh how wrong I was. First off, it's really easy to shake the Tamagotchi-rip-off to get the points (or rather volts) you desire. Secondly, while cute and somewhat fun, it's nowhere near as addictive as the actual games. Yes, every little kid wanted a Pikachu. Just not one this full of attitude! It is, however, challenging. You must get the Pikachu to like you. Otherwise it won't want to play. Plus, it's rather difficult to play with a Pikachu if it's gone in a huff and decided to stuff itself in a PokeBall. What is enjoyable though is the card game. I found it to be an addictive way of gaining the oh-so-coveted volts that would make Pikachu so very happy. Summary: Pikachu holds up a card and you have to guess whether the uncovered card is of a higher or lower value. Also, if you don't like the tradional "beepbeep" of an alarm, you can compose your own alarm tune, or find other songs (on the net, or at the time, magazines) to programme into it. Thankfully if the Pikachu annoys you, you CAN turn the sound off. However, I had got so used to the "beep-beep! beep-beep!" (rough translation: "Pika! Pika!" that I couldn't bear to keep it off. Overall, this was a fun little gadget but really not worth the money. If they still expect people to buy these things, the price should be brought down.
Pikachu, oh how I hate yoooou! May 22, 2006 Mrs. Ea Finch (Stafford, UK) 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
A very poor and pointless creation from Nintendo - there really is little you can do with this tiny expensive item. It may look cute in the form of a little yellow game boy, and it may sound appealing to have your own little pikachu in your pocket, but this item is just pathetic. Do you want to know what you can do with it? Feed Pikachu. Play slots. Give Pikachu a present. That is all it does! And not only that but you have to work to make Pikachu like you, and I spent a VERY long time trying to make that little 2D, simple black and white piece of lame pixel usage like me. He just cries at you, bleeping more like, and walks backwards and forwards on the screen! Further more, the bloody thing wont turn off and the reset does absolutely nothing. The battery lasts a while only because there is so little power required for the generic tamagotchi critter. The sound cant be turned off/down either. It bleeps at you ALL night - I lost it at one point under my bed and couldn't sleep for a month! This is over priced and crappy. Don't even think about buying it.
Ok but could be better September 11, 2000 Simon (London) 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
I brought this for my brother for Christmas and it kept him going till new year after which it was put aside. He claimed it note to have enough to do on it and nothing new to the already old cyber pet idea. If you are looking for a quick fix to boardem get it, but must Pokemon fans will want more than it has to offer.
