Amazon.co.uk Review Pokemon Trading Card Game is a Game Boy Color title based on the popular strategy card game from Wizards of the Coast. Fans of the existing red, blue and yellow versions of Pokemon will find this game to be less redundant than earlier Game Boy Pocket Monster offerings. This game is more of a hybrid of its predecessors--mixing strategy card gameplay and role-playing game elements--with highly successful results. The story in Pokemon Trading Card Game is basically the same as that of the original Pokemon titles, only with new character and feature names substituted. Instead of Professor Oak, players meet Dr Mason. Gym Leaders are named Club Masters, battles are duels and so forth. Learning the card game is a breeze thanks to the inclusion of comprehensive instructions and an in-depth tutorial. Although some minor changes have been made, the method of play is virtually identical to the original card game, and just as addictive. While much shorter than the Pokemon games, the gameplay here doesn't involve random and repetitive battles, and follows a less linear path. Although Pokemon Trading Card Game would seem to turn a social experience into a solitary one, it allows for and encourages interacting with other game owners. Duels can be fought between players via a game link cable, and cards and decks can be traded using the infrared communications port. The most interesting feature here is the "card pop!" option, which generates one new card for each player when communicating wirelessly; the catch is that you can't "card pop!" the same person again for a while after doing so, thus limiting the feature's appeal. --Joe Hon

Good but Bad in a way April 19, 2008 Mr. Richard Barn (Brigstock, Northamptonshire, England) Pokemon Trading Card game is good fun and quite a well-thought-out game. Once you get the hang of it it's actually great fun. However, there are a few bad things about it. The graphics are not very good even though it is only a GameBoy Color game and the gameplay is overall rather luck-based rather than skill. Other than this, a great game with at least 50 hours of game-time.

i loved this game while i had it (either got stolen with my first gba or lost with it) and i played it through at least twice over. if the ds played gameboy colour games id get it again.
Pokemon Trading Cards go electronic June 26, 2006 Kosmo F (Fife, Scotland) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
The gameboy version of Pokemon Trading Card Game takes all the the fun elements of the ever expanding popular Wizards of the Coast card game and gives them a fantastic challenging twist in this entertaining single player game. As players make their way to the Grand Masters and the goal of inheiriting the infamous Legenday Pokemon cards at the end of the game, they can improve their skills. Perfect for beginners and experts alike, this game delivers on all levels. With the addaition of being able to duel friends with the gameboy link cable and the ability to trade cards, decks and and Card Pop! via the Gameboy Color's infer-red port, the game's addictibilty keeps going players for hours.
card collecting pokemaniacs dream... November 23, 2001 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
It's a game. Based on playing cards. While it might not sound like it's going to bring you hours of fun on a portable machine, sprinkle that little bit of pokemon dazzle, and weave a little nintendo magic, and you've got a simple, but addictive game. This is a game which pokemon haters will obviously stay well clear off, but for the rest it is a joy to behold. Fans of the card game will instantly be able to pick up and play, while gamers new to the card experience will slowly be led in learning the basics until they too are a true master. Graphics - although the GBC can't exactly produce the most stunning visuals around, it does push the machine to its full and provides some colourful worlds for the hero to explore. sound - the game's downside although true for every game. The GBC can only manage a few beeps and screechs, but it does well to produce something worth listening too. Playability - has an excellent learning curve so even beginners will be building powerful decks in no time atall lifespan - with several places to conquer, and the inspiration to "catch 'em all" this will last a mammoth amount of time. overall - excellent game which will keep you coming back for more. You either love it, or hate it.
