Absolute garbage! September 6, 2008 Mr. M. L. Hanford (Hereford,England) I was under no apprehension whatsoever that this was anything like the PC or cancelled Dreamcast game but this!,this is pure drivel!!,it's a strategy game devoid of any strategy at all, save for which bin to put it in,you choose from one of four 'Heroes'which makes no difference to the game at all except the speed of your avatar then wander/sail round four identikit maps bumping into mosters which either a)Run away,b)offer to join you or c)fight.battles are resolved on a five by five grid and basically consist of the two armies trading blows till one falls over, ranged combat is pointless as most units can travel across the'map' in about two rounds!,your units have a few stats but when your given, for example, the info that your ten giants will do 100-200 points of damage and they consistently do 33 and the opposing force regularly does 180 ypu know somethings wrong. That's just the first of many flaws, extremely poor graphics, laughable animation, repetitive music, random amounts of gold in chests are just a few. You have up to 900 days to find the staff and defeat the last (ridiculously overpowered)boss, the location of the staff is found by defeating 'contracts' and finding the artefacts which both uncover a part of the puzzle map, this is just like the "Super Cathphrase"from the gameshow and the piece you find is invariably a bit of sea or a tree or something as useless, there is no management at all,you don't earn money by garrisoning castles only by defeating enemies or picking up chests, you will end up spending all your gold on upping your leadership value otherwise you'll have a miniscule force when the end comes, this is at the detriment of actually buying anything!!,dwellings are repopulated on an annoying random/infrequent basis and as a whole the game is just a mess of cheating CPU,limited cash,no strategy and no fun,you aren't given the option of retreating from a fight, this just means you give up and go back to your castle, get a roasting and get given 20 or so peasants, reload time!!,on screen enemies are represented by a monster and I've not worked out if it's the most abundant, powerful or what, likewise the morale of your units goes up and down like a yo-yo for no reason, you can't do anything about it anyway. Overall it's just a shoddy mess, stick with Dynasty Tactics or Robot Warlords,Hell! Dune on the PSOne is miles better than this!!!
Repetaive but enjoyable RPG / Strategy game January 4, 2007 Ashes (UK) Heroes of Might and Magic was a game which took me a while to fathom out. Initally I got slaughted by the enemy then I found out you need to recruit an army - you can't fight monsters with 20 pesants at your side. The combat system is repetive and there is a lot of it as the lands are infested with creatures. Some of the monsters like the giants are really hard to defeat and you need a good size army with witch to engage them or be profficient in spells otherwise it's pointless in fighting them - they win hands down ! Also once you have your army you need to remember to replace the troops you loose and make sure you have enough gold to maintain your army. I also recommend not allowing ghosts to join your army unitl you have mastered magic as they can turn against you even though they were on your side. Overal if played in short bursts this was an enjoyable game. One of those games you either like it or loathe it.
heroes of might and rubbish... eh magic March 6, 2004 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
this game is one of the worst games ive ever played. i was expecting an excellent rpg but i got a game that was really bad (in my opinion, no offence to fans.) if you were thinking of buying this game i SERIOUSLY recommend you rent a copy first. it has poor graphics, semi 3d which are like 3d graphics on a 2d board. simple and hardly any story line. fights are like a chess board. using the battle system is really difficult.
Great but too small! February 16, 2004 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
A great addition to the Might and Magic series, although not as good as the PC versions HeroesIII and IV. Also, slightly different from what PC gamers will be used to. Although it is a small game (just 1 level with 4 'continents') it has good replayability because of the character choice. You can choose from the Barbarian, Knight, Paladin and Sorceress, all starting the game fairly similar and developing into completely different characters and earning new titles later on. For example, the Barbarian will finish the game with very high 'leadership' making him able to command a huge number of strong troops, whereas the Sorceress develops far more powerful spells than the Barbarian and, although she is the hardest character to play, she ends the game undeniably the strongest. A good, playable game overall, but only gets a 4 from me. A bigger game would have received a 5!
Entertaining for a while October 13, 2003 The Jolly Juggler (Manchester, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I played the mega-drive version of this game, King's Bounty and frankly, nothing much has changed. I did like the primative version however and I quickly recaptued the strategy. There is something entertaining about the game, even if the graphics and sounds are pretty apalling. The entertainment value doesn't actually last that long, so don't expect it to be in your console anything after a month from when you buy it. Once you have figured out how to beat the game, the challenge completely diappears and you will quickly tire of the game. Regardless, it is well worth a few quid and a few hours of your precious gaming time. If you are thinking about getting it, do so with open eyes - it's a basic game.
