This game needs a real make over !!!! August 26, 2006 James F. T. Mainwaring (Hereford, England) 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
Why have they done this to harvest moon. they have completely and uterly destroyed the originals they should have built on. Where are the festivals to livin the game play up, oh yes i remember it's going to watch somebody play a very bad song on the guitar, twice a year. Where are the huge barns to house your 40 cows and sheep. where are the challenges of earning your bigger rucksack, your basket, and more importantly the difficult job of raising your horse. these challenges kept the game going they provided you with a strong story line and new challenges to achieve every day. some reviewers may not have played the originals so did not no what to expect in a harvest moon, and think it was good for what it is!!!! I feel that harvest moon is becoming less for people of all ages and more for people who are between the ages of 4-11. I have not played "magical melody" but you have to collect magical notes how babyish do you want to make a game meant for all (i repeat) ALL!!!!! ages, they are getting away from the people who are past 14 years old and starting to make it suitable for younger and younger people. As is said in another review where are the shipping bins?! you have to spend hours selling them to a trader!! the way there is no real food processing room, where is the mayonaise maker and the weaver. This game needs a structure, if it did this game could be a new classic but as it is it is just a game witch will collect dust or find its way to back to a shop to sell. If you like just like the farming side of the harvest moon games and not the depth that the originals gave like "back to nature" where all the festivals the minor and major challenges brought forward produce a truely amazing game then buy "a wonderful life" but for all the true diehard harvestmoon fans it is best you keep your wallet safley in your poket until a true harvest moon comes out!!!!!!! Game Play: 4/10 game play slow and boring Sound: gets on my nerves you have to find and swap the records, a bit pointless?!! Graphics: 9/10 graphics by far the best part of this game. i find they bring out what ever life this game has. Storyline: 2/10 there are no challenges no alternatives to lighten up the game like festivals, no hard work to get extensions like hous of log cutting or mining.

when i first got this game i was majorly disapointed but i came back to it about a month ago and boy was i surprised and now i would say its one of he most adictive games on the cube. graphics: 9/10-the scenery is amazing. sound: 6/10-you only hear anything when you are either talking to some one or on the farm gameplay: 10/10-very good value: 10/10-incredible adictive overall: 92%- a must-have.
Not as good as the others April 29, 2005 3 out of 10 found this review helpful
Being a fan of the others, i bought this. There are several things that are not good additions to this game. Firstly, cows only give milk for a year, then u have to get them pregnant, which takes like a year for them to give birth before they give milk again. Secondly, wheres the traditional shipping box??? U can only sell milk produce and eggs through the shipping box. u have to sell the crops you grow elsewhere. Thirdly, u cannot trigger any events without the help of a guide, the good events are impossible to triger without setting out to do it knowing exactly what time, place and person you have to talk to. There are however a few good points. e.g. U can set up your own market stall and sell all your produce to the villagers. i thought this was cool. Personally, i preffered the older versions of the series, the GBA game (which is almost identical to the ps1 version) is very good as an alternate.
Harvest moon provides one of the most original games ever! December 18, 2004 Luque (ENGLAND) 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I've always loved harvest moon games, so when i heard one was coming out on the gamecube I couldn't wait to play it. The game itself starts off very differently to other harvest moon games, if you've played them before. In this game you start off at a farm but this time the game doesnt really rely on your crops but instead on your interaction with other characters. The game spans over a 30 year period so you can see the world around you change over time and the characters around you change, for example some characters might move into your town , move out or maybe die. Although I said crops aren't a major factor this time around you can still plant them, they just don't really get you that much money compared to the high prices of milk. Theres a new feature in the game where you cna make hybrid crops too, which I think is a great idea and adds further depth to the game. The game this time has months of 10 days, which doesnt sound too long, but when one day takes you 24 minutes they are defintely long enough! The graphics are excellent, when you change seasons its gradually done day by day rather than instantly, so for example you can see leaves slowy falling off trees in the Fall. The game like previous harvest moon games focuses also on you getting married, there are 3 girls to chose from each with very different characteristics. It's important you marry a girl you like because it will alter the outcome of your future, as early in the second year you will have a child to look after!! You have to get married by the end of the first year, so this is really one of your main abjectives to begin with. The range of animals availble this time has increased, there are now different breeds of cows available and bulls. Theres also sheep, goats, chickens, dogs, cats, ducks and a horse for you to ride around your town on. The only downside i thought of the game is the fact that it takes ages for the days to go by, and although there seems a lot to do, to beign with, you start doing things for the sake of it instead of somehting new to do. I kept on going fishing when i had nothing to, which can become tedious after a while. I'd also like to have seen more to do with farming because as the game suggests its a farming sim. I used to quite like having to clean up your farm at the beginning of the game and maintaining it, I also liked the role of crops in the previous games. So inconclusion this game is really just what the gamecube wanted, something different, and something original. If you havent played previous versions of the game it doesnt matter, as this game is quite different to their approach anyway. I'd therefore recommend this game to anybody as long as they have the patience to get into this sort of game, because if you don't you probably won't get very far as this game certainly needs dedication. The game sets itself perfectly for a seqaul as there are areas which could be addressed, but until that one is made, make the most of this version!
Mooooo ffaaaaaaaa! (translates as: Where are the pigs?!) September 6, 2004 Eloise Fiendish (London, UK) 25 out of 34 found this review helpful
This will really make you want to be a farmer (just remember that real farming doesn't involve fishing all day long and spending hours riding around on a horse) and is a lot of fun to play, but I have a few complaints! Firstly, you are not allowed to attack your wife and son with the hoe, which is very disappointing. Secondly, you can't buy pigs(!!) which is a crime, because, as everyone should know, PIGS ARE THE COOLEST FARMYARD ANIMALS IN THE HISTORY OF FARMS! Cows rule as well, but I'm currently mad at my cow for getting pregnant again. Stupid cow. Here is a list of my family and farmyard animals, if anyone is interested: Wife: Celia. Boring, and when I proudly showed her a fossil I dug up she said "Get that thing the heck away from me!" Charming. Son: Tobey. I am concerned for his future as he is a wimp and cries when I show him plants. Dog: Vyvyan. Very cool, but my son is terrified of him. Cat: Alex. No comment. Cow 1: Eloise. I love her dearly, but I am furious that she is pregnant again. Stupid cow. Bull: Dave. The bull that got Eloise pregnant. He didn't even help out when the first one was born! Cow 2: Claudia. Eloise's first child, and frustratingly won't let me milk her. Sheep: Elliot. "Elliot's eyes are shining", it tells me when I tap A next to him. I am a little worried. Is that a sign of a healthy sheep, or a homicidal maniac? Horse: Holden. Lives up to his namesake (from the catcher in the rye) and is moody and sucidal. If you try and hug him he goes mental. Chickens and ducks: I won't bore you by naming them, but they aren't very interesting. Anyway, there's list of the animals on Vanian Farm. A bit pointless, but never mind. I was very bored.
