Amazon.co.uk Review The original The Sims is the best selling PC game ever but after four years and seven expansion discs it's finally starting to look a bit long in the tooth. As the first official sequel almost everything in The Sims 2 has been expanded and improved on from the original, even if the basic idea remains the same: to create and control the lives of your virtual characters. The entire scope of the game has now increased--your characters age and give birth to children. Sims remain children only for a few weeks, before spending most of the game as adults and then eventually dying and the game carrying on with their children and grandchildren--if they have any. Another big new feature of the game is the introduction of specific "aspirations" for your sim, which can be anything from a specific career to marrying a particular person. Each sim also has their own "fears", which can be anything from living alone to losing their hair. Which of these situations end up coming true becomes the main influence on whether your sim is happy, the attainment of which is the only true goal in the game. Apart from all these new features the graphics have been severely overhauled are now in full 3D and more in line with the recent console spin-offs. This is a must buy for anyone that's ever enjoyed the original titles, but the new features should also be enough to entice sceptics to the fold as well. --David Jenkins

Two words: Square eyes! November 19, 2008 discmythnut (A state of mind) This game is addictive, but also boring and a waste of time. The graphics are good n' flashy, but not enough for a Sim to crack a decent smile. In fact, they show their teeth as often as a Japanese Geisha when she laughs. The characters are stubborn and hard to control and everything has to be done a l'heure. The house building takes forever and I am the worst archetect in the world. Just any moment, someone from the real world will creep up behind you and go, "Boo!" like I did to my sister who was on the game. I found the Body Shop more fun and I wish you could download it separately. Personally, I think Maxis needs to extend its imagination into further horizons.

The Best Game Ever Created!!! June 16, 2008 Mr. L. Jaffray (Scotland) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Firstly, i bought the Sims 2 when i was first released for the pc. I had originally played the sims 1 on the playstation and really enjoyed it. I dind't quite know what to expect for the sims 2 on pc but after staying awake for 3 days unable to draw myself away from my computer i realised what a brilliant game it is. It is far from "Boring" that some people have stated it, there so much to do. Advance your career, family, friendships, needs, wants and fill your aspiration meter. Overall great game. But there is one thing i will say and that is that you need a really superior pc to play the game to a satisfactory level. My packard bell computer was a mid level gaming pc and after 7 expansions it went a bit funny with playing the game, i.e really slow loading scenes between lots. But i'm well sorted because i've purhcased a brand new powerful Nvidia pc so the sims 2 will be no problem.
Brilliant - and it works on a laptop June 1, 2008 Ms. Monique Philpott (Tibenham, Norfolk) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this game after a long time spent debating whether it will run on my computer or not. I was thrilled to find that it worked on my Asus Intel Pentium core duo processor laptop. I thought it was also a lovely touch that you could play mini-games to pass the time installing it. The game - i cant fault it. If you played other Sims games and found them unfulfilling, then don't hesitate to buy this. Building a house is amazing, the graphics are incredible, i had no freeze-ups or slow loading to deal with, and the furnishings are great - especially the fact that you can change the colour of everything you buy. As long as you know the money cheat (ctrl+shift+c+motherlode) then you will find this game really entertaining. Having a family is realistic - you try for a baby, get pregnant, the child grows up etc. There are a million little features that the original sims was missing like being able to carry the child around with you, doing homework, your sims actually having a brain and being able to order groceries and choosing what meal to cook. I throughly recommend this game, although i picked it up in HMV for 15. I certainly havent experienced any difficulties with it - it runs perfectly, the graphics are fab and i end up spending hours on it when i should be doing my own homework.
