Baffled if I can find a good game here December 22, 2008 D-Dom (UK) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
If there's a half-decent game here I'm baffled if I can find it. Have the developers never heard of TUTORIALS!? Crammed with a huge amount of overwhelming and boring detail, pointless conversations, unmemorable names, shops choices, weapons choices, planetary choices, etc etc, this game is not doubt geared towards sci-fi geeks with degrees in Klingon. And when the character are not aimlessly wondering about in this lifeless and sterile world, suddenly for no apparent reason a fight breaks out. Which brings me to combat: Combat is pathetically weak, with some of the dullest ineffective weapons I've ever used in a game (a tip for the developers: when a gun is fired it helps if the thing being hit reacts to being hit - I felt I was shooting badly targeting waterpistols). Overall this is a poor game, that looks dull, plays very stilted, and I am not surprised it can be picked up for under a tenner these days.
One of the most Epic games ever created!! December 2, 2008 Lister (Great Britain) First things first, you need to play this properly to appreciate how great it is, I strongly recommend playing as a semi biotic character, that way you can use your guns and force power. Secondly, do some side quests in order to level up your character, they may not be as memorable as KOTORs but are very much worth doing and then the main story missions will be easier and the combat more fun. Thirdly, INSTALL the game to the harddrive, you will have very little stutter and texture pop up (which seems to be less or more severe depending on your 360 model) As a massive KOTOR fan, I can tell you Bioware are very much back on form. You will care about your companions, loathe the bad guys and be sucked into the Sci_fi story from the start. The graphics are fantastic, the combat is fun (especially with biotic powers, lifting opponents into the air etc) overall Mass Effect is one of the most rewarding and satisfying games I've played on a console in along time, and look how little it costs now!!
The next big franchise and the future of gaming! November 14, 2008 Mitch This game has everything I hope for in a good RPG Shooter it blurs the lines between the two with a breathtaking new franchise of games. This has to be one of the best games on the xbox 360 to date with The Elder Scrolls Oblivion coming a close second for me. If you played the Halo series for the story this game will blow you away. It has almost everything you could want in a game fully customisable characters, fully upgradeable weapons with hundreds of different permutations, the ability to progress through the story at your own pace and decide its outcome. The story progresses how you like it to with your choices affecting almost every aspect of game play. You can chose to be a saint or sinner while guiding a brilliantly A.I controlled team of 3 (Including you) of your choice to fight against brilliantly A.I. controlled enemies. All in all one of the best games on the xbox 360 and with a trilogy in the works and who knows what after that Mass Effect will be around for a very long time to come and with good reason.
Mass effect is like a film August 17, 2008 Matthew Wood (bradford, yorkshire United Kingdom) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ok this game isn`t for people who just like shoot`em ups, there is a great story here and you do have to do a lot of talking to people. Graphically this game is fantastic and is like a movie at times especially on a 42" plasma. I haven`t suffered that much with the game freezing and slow down. The story in this game is that good that i really think someone could either make a film from it or even a series preferably a series. If you have the patience then you will enjoy it.
Stick with it you will love it. August 17, 2008 Barry Fowles (Hadleigh, Essex UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is not for everyone, my dad just can't get on with it, but i love it and here's why. Its got a great story!! The problem and i think why you get some negative reviews is it starts with a bang, alien planet lots of shooting quite exciting, but when you return home for the first time there is a lot of talking to characters and sub missions to do to allow the story too unfold, sometimes at this point it isn't exactly obvious what you have to do. This is a role playing game so completing this backdrop allows you to build up some key character attributes. Once you get past this and fly back out into space the pace picks up and stays that way, the story sucks you in and you have to see how it ends. Graphically suberb, easy to use control system but hard to master (especially how to use all your special abilities) but thats what makes it fun. Your gonna need some patience but you will be rewarded for it in the end.
