Amazon.co.uk Preview It may have sold 30 million copies worldwide, but before the release of Tomb Raider: Legend last year it looked like Lara Croft was ending her video game career in disgrace. Thankfully the new game was exactly the reboot that the series needed, instantly reminding everyone why they loved it (and Lara) so much in the first place. So to mark the tenth anniversary of the first game (actually 2007 is the eleventh anniversary, but who's counting?) Eidos are releasing this special remake of the first game in the series, using an enhanced version of the graphics engine from Tomb Raider: Legend.Although the game does feature the same basic settings and levels as the original, this isn't just the same game with better graphics. Most of the levels are larger, with many new paths and areas to explore. They're also much more interactive, with Lara using many of the same moves and gadgets she demonstrated in Tomb Raider: Legend, including a grappling hook and a greater variety of weapons. The story has been expanded too, but it does keep the same basic structure with more animal enemies than the later games, including the infamous encounter with a tyrannosaurs rex. Instead of just running straight at you mindlessly, the enemies have also been given much better artificial intelligence than previously. The new graphics are still the most obvious change but the new fluid movement of Lara is a world away from the awkward grid based system used in the old games. Indeed this should be the first video game remake to actually prove itself as something more than just a cheap cash-in. HARRISON DENT

A credit to the PSP July 21, 2008 Ollie F, formerly B. WEIR (Lancaster, UK) The PS2 game, following the resurrection of Lara that was Legend, beautifully updated the Tomb Raider series and created an excellent platforming and puzzling game. The PSP version is a direct port and as such adds nothing new, but if you haven't owned the other versions then this is an absorbing and fantastic platforming experience. If you think of it as an exact copy of the original Tomb Raider on PS1, but with better graphics, hugely extended levels and far better gameplay. This is one of the best platformers on PS2, and it transports itself to be easily one of the best on PSP. It has fantastic graphics, typically excellent puzzles and great platforming gameplay that we've come to expect from this series. I have only good things to say about this fantastic port and game in its own right and its similarity to the larger console versions is a real credit to the power of the PSP.
Another TR winner for the PSP January 9, 2008 D. Parker-mead (Leicestershire, UK) The PSP is made for the Tomb Raider series of games. The quick interplay, and graphics, are simply a dream and the game flows well. I was impressed with TR Legend and wondered what Anniversary would be like. I shouldn't have worried, it performed superbly. One are, for me, where Anniversary lacks is in terms of interaction with vehicles etc , but as this virtually an updated version of the very first TR that I played on PS1 on those years ago I'm not complaining. Please, please, please can we have a new Tomb Raideron PSP soon?

A must have for all T.R fans will keep you entertained for hours.Lara is better than ever and this game has brilliant adventures, twists and turns. I agree graphics on psp are great. Just completed and part with a T-rex in it absolutely fantastic! can't wait to see what else is in store for me!
It's finally here, and it's better than Legend! September 18, 2007 J. D. Atkinson (Halifax, U.K.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Okay. Where do I start? I played the original Playstation Tomb Raider to death back in 1997. While I bought a couple of the sequels I never really got into them in the same way as the original. I never really bothered with the PS2 only Tomb Raider games, either. When I bought a PSP, I got Legen with it, and I really enjoy it, though I found that the tendency of the game to produce odd camera angles did detract somehwat from the gameplay. I've been waiting for this since March, and even bought the PS2 version (excellent) to keep me occupied while the PSP version arrived. And it's finally here! The way they have kept the feel of the original levels with updated puzzles and better graphics is excellent. The big difference with Legend... is that the controls have been changed giving you better control of the camera angles. The whole thing feels much more natural than Legend (which is still a good game).
awesome game: August 13, 2007 JoeApps (United Kingdom) 9 out of 15 found this review helpful
Tomb Raider Anniversary is awesome. I didn't expect that it would be that good on the PSP but i was very wrong. The graphics are some of the best yet seen on the PSP, the gameplay and controls are easy to use after the first "tutorial" level, and the lifespan is long too. (It took me around 12 hours to complete the game, and an additional 2 hours to complete the Croft Mansion, and after i did all that, i went though the game again to explore all the secrets and areas that i had missed out.) In my opinion, the enviroments explored in the game are the best part; Jungles looks realistic and are covered in foilage, Desert monuments are covered in detail, and the rest of the game is packed with attention to detail. My only negative comments about the game, is that occasionally, the camera can mess up, and some levels you do are very difficult to complete, but! These are very infrequent Overall 10/10 from me, very satisfied.
