Its The Sims meets Oblivion February 12, 2010 Ben (UK) Now that i've completed the main quest, i felt it wise to input my own views on Fable II. The story is good, whats better is the way you can choose on being good or evil, and not just in the typical way by choosing which quest you want to do - i.e. killing someone or protecting them. At certain points in a large number of the quests you have to make a moral decision. Do one thing or another, and these can affect the rest of the game greatly. Being good or evil effects you accordingly, with good having halos and their dogs a golden colour whilst evil-doers growing horns and having black companions with them on their travels. As well as good and evil there is Purity and Corruption which is slightly differently measured - eating tofu and vegetarian foods nets you purity, whilst eating meat and having affairs makes you corrupt. The Dog is an essential part of the game, leading you to dig spots, treasure chests and helping you out in combat. There is so much to do in Fable II it can be mind-boggling at first but once you get a hang of it it becomes extremely fun.
In combat you can use either melee(x) with a variety of axes, hammers, katanas, cutlasses, longswords and other weapons at your disposal. Also there is ranged weaponry(y) such as pistols, rifles and shotgun like blunderbusses. The final aspect is magic which, if use well, can be an extremely useful tool. There are dozens of different spells to use, all of which can be upgraded 5 levels and are not just attacking, some cause enemies to attack each other, some slow time and some raise dead souls to help you fight. Overall it's an excellent system with lots of variety and choice.
As for it's style, well, Fable II looks beautiful. The visuals are stunning, the characters are all different and the whole thing is pulled off with one distinct style, with different areas within it. Throughout it has a distinctly British theme with lovely upper class mockery and funny, witty writing. Actors such as Zoe Wanamaker, James Corden and Stephen Fry have their voices in the game, and it is a lovely game. The one drawback I have is that, while I have not experienced them, there are several game ending glitches and I am at the moment encountering one where my dog does nothing and completely stands still but chances are you won't encouter this one.
So, if you are at all looking for something to spend a few hours here and there playing, fable 2 is well worth your money. Especialy if you buy the cheaper Game of the Year edition, which has two expansion packs thrown in for free. Well done Lionhead, you have made a truly exceptional game.
Highly Enjoyable (at least for a rookie) February 2, 2010 M. Adams (North Shields) I'm writing this review as someone who is in no way a 'hardcore' gamer. I dabble in playing video games and only recently acquired an XBOX 360, so I'm aiming this review at people like me, who do not live and breathe video games. I'd recommend this game for those of you who want a game where not everything is 100 miles an hour and prefer a game with a little more subtlety.
Visually this game is quite breathtakingly beautiful. I really love the sheer size and complexity of the terrain and the villages and towns do seem to me to be authentic and in keeping with the spirit of the game. I also enjoyed the 'Englishness' of the cast and the acting is very well done indeed - there's not a lot cheesey or cringeworthy in this game and that's one of the main problems I have with a lot of best-selling games, the voiceover work is so terrible and trite it's a wonder the actors are ever paid for their 'work'. Well, Fable II very definitely blows the competition out of the water in that regard.
I like the idea of having a dog as a faithful friend and he's loyal, faithful, brave and very handy. You can also marry and have kids and even sleep with both male and female prostitutes should you wish to! Having said that, there is nothing overly eexplicit or upsetting about the game I wouldn't have any qualms about teenagers playing it.
The story is interesting and engaging and the plot allows you plenty of scope to roam freely throughout the land, your dog at your side and the wind in your hair. Bear in mind that if you just sprint through this game at breakneck speed and play in robot mode then you are failing to get the best from it. Take your time, savour all it has to offer and enjoy it for what it is - a wonderfully told story, well thought out, well constructed and beautifully imagined on the XBOX 360.
Fable III should be incredible.
Brilliantly excellent!!!! I keep it short-ish December 30, 2009 Jessie-Nic This game is quite possibly one of the most entertaining games I have ever played in my 12 years of gaming!
I still find myself going back to replay it now even after finishing it a few times.
What I love about this is that you cannot finish the game 100% unless you play it through at least 3 times(this is due to the different destiny choices etc.) Depending on your chosen path in the avatars life, you missions will change and new missions offered accordingly.
Your furry companion is a great addition to this sequal and makes for great entertainment after dog/avatar co-ordinated actions have been acquired or learned.
All missions and characters are entertaining meaning you won't get bored quickly.
The only flaw I have to report is that after you have defeated the final 'boss' in the game, it seems to have take ages loading locations or missions. Although this is not really a problem in the grand scheme of things!!
Hope this helps
Fable 2 is different December 11, 2009 Paul (Musselburgh, Scotland UK) Fable 2 , in my opinion did not live up to the hype. It was pretty much the same game as the first Fable. If you were a fan of the first one, you'll enjoy it.
There is the new added feature of two players online, but this feature is pretty short lived, as you are unable to be your own character if you are joinin someone elses game. There is only the option of a pre-made character.
The controls of the camera in this feature are very sluggish too, as you and your friend are to use the same camera, which really doesn't work.
I found it wasn't a very long game either, unless you are tryin to get all the achievements. Nice graphics and good voice actors/actress' pretty much make this game, plus the add-ons that came out later.
Soulless November 21, 2009 Mr. J. F. Clarke (England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
On its own, Fable 2 is a good game. It has a fairly big/good story, decent graphics and an expansive world. But It's just not Fable. Its nigh on impossible not to compare it with the first Fable, because the first was so original and fresh, where as 2 is a bit dusty. What I'm getting at is what 2 promised to deliver, got lost in the post. The Co-operative aspect of Fable 2 was a real talking point and attraction. But Co-op is hugely flawed, your customised character, your weapons, clothing and skills are just ignored and traded for a pre-made character taking away the point of why you wanted to play in the first place. Reguardless, this should not stop a gamer from playing the game and it doesn't. Apart from anything multiplayer related, Fable 2 should be a good game, but like some series of games, films etc it just doesn't cut it with the original.
I think this game has devided most people into 2 groups.
1 - Newcomers who haven't played the original. 5*
2 - Gamers who have played the original. 1*
My beef with 2 is what it has lost, the magic (metaphorical). What i wanted was an updated fable, bigger and better, instead it became a seperate game altogether, with a colder feel and characters you couldn't care less for. Perhaps fable 1s shortcummings made it more addictive. Its been months since I played this game and i hardly remember anything other then a poor ending, 'some' decent downloadable content (knothole island had promise) and some hookers.
So thats it, if you played/like fable1 then dont bother with this. If you haven't, you should have, but get 2.. i guess.
