    Product Description
Take movies and photos on the move, with the PSP Camera. Launching across Europe on May 16, the PSP Camera combines existing PSP functionality with the ability to take your own movies and photos. This nifty piece of kit fits neatly into place on top of your PSP and incorporates a microphone for continuous audio recording, plus a vertical, 180 degree mount to position the camera lens either facing you - as you look into the screen - or directly away. Capacity varies based on resolution and the size of Memory Stick Duo being used, but on a 4GB Memory Stick you can easily capture over two hours of video or 40,000 photos. To make full use of the hardware and support your creativity, Go!Cam comes with access to Go!Edit, an editing software package with the ability to enhance your movies and photos with sound and graphical effects. System Software 3.00 is required to use both the PSP Camera and Go!Edit, which can be downloaded for free. Building upon existing PSP functionality, especially connectivity, Go!Edit also allows the option to upload creations onto the internet directly from your PSP, letting you share your masterpieces with the world.

this small camera is very good and easy to use at first i had a bit of trouble getting it started but now it works fine and the filming works well to.To get the most out of the camers i advise you to get a 4gb memory card because you have to download the go!edit softwear and if you have games saves on there that takes up place to but all in all im really peased with it ITS A MUST GET FOR PSP OWNERS !!!!!!!

On first impression this wee gadget looks and feels like a toy. The lens is tiny, and the microphone is almost invisible.

The camera comes with very basic instructions and no software. You will have to download the go!edit software if you want to do any editing. But if you have a recent firmware update you can run the camera from within the PSP operating system.

You can take videos up to the capacity of the memory stick in a resolution of 320x240 or 480x272 at 15 or 30 frames per second. Stills can be captured at 320x240 or 1280x960.

I didn't test the stills quality, but the video quality was certainly up to YouTube standard. The low light response was pretty good and the frame rate held steady without any glitches or smearing. I was able to import the files into my editing software on the PC and edit without any problems.

Sony claim that the free downloadable software is a go anywhere video editing suite. Er, not quite.

First, it requires a hefty 80mb of space on your card, and a further 120mb of operating space. So, about 200mb just to get up and running. Already my expectations were running high.

The software is accessed through the game menu.

Frankly, go!edit is little more than a joke. It would be more accurately called "Don'tBotherTo!Edit", because that's what I imagine most people will do with it.

Sony have missed a huge opportunity here to provide a YouTube ready solution. Film, edit and upload all from the PSP. Well, it may still be possible, but I doubt many will persevere.

The go!edit software limits captured video files to 15 seconds, and will not let you edit video that has been captured within the PSP operating system. So, what's the point? I can't imagine that there are many film makers of any sort who will relish the prospect of only being able to capture clips of 15 seconds.

Sony have got this one spectacularly wrong.

There is a second (and much more damaging) flaw with this camera - the sound. The tiny microphone does a very passable job of capturing the audio, but there is an annoying and persistent rumbling hum noise. This is probably related to the camera's proximity to the PSP screen, which no doubt gives off a small electromagnetic field that interferes with the electronics in the camera. It sounds like a basic shielding problem (the camera is made of plastic rather than metal).

It's a real downer and means that the audio is practically unusable for anything beyond messing about.

Perhaps I'm expecting too much from such a cheap wee device, but the truth is that Sony are very close to producing a classic accessory here. A PSP based editor that would allow clips of unlimited length to be trimmed and split, appended to one another on a timeline and then saved into a new file, along with noise free audio capture, would make this device the video blogger's best friend, and the budding film maker's toy of choice.

Perhaps a future firmware update (I was testing using 3.50) will fix the problems. But at the moment, my first impression has been confirmed.

    5 out of 5 stars My boy's gonna love this! .....   June 15, 2007

I bought the go!cam for my son for his birthday and thought I'd try it out before the day (obviously when he was tucked up in bed!) It's a small camera which has a small screw to secure it to your psp so it will never fall off and comes with a little case for you to store it in when not in use. It has a rotating mechanism so you can aim at something or self portrait. Much to my frustration, I couldn't get it to work at first and thought it was faulty aaaarrrgghhhh!!

However, I went on the www.mypsp.com site and it's review mentions that it runs on FIRMWARE 3.40 or higher (this isn't really made clear on the instructions) - so I downloaded the firmware and it worked first time! It's a brilliant picture for my son to have loads of fun with and I know he's gonna love it! I had to download the firefox browser to get the go!edit software. It took a couple of attempts to get go!edit but eventually worked (you must be registered to the mypsp site first). I haven't tried the software yet but it's a full game download that offers photo & video shoots, slide shows, album, templates and editing.

Anyway it's sony entertainment - you know it's gonna be good!
