    Editorial Reviews:

    Manufacturer's Description
Step onto the pitch and play professional football your way in FIFA 09. Experience the most authentic football simulation EA Sports has delivered as you live the fantasy of playing as a professional player and customise the game to suit your style and ability.

Powered by the third generation of the EA Sports football engine, FIFA 09 features more than 250 core gameplay additions and enhancements that deliver the most responsive, intelligent and realistic action ever for the series. Enjoy turning defenders with more controlled dribbling and ball control, snapping off precision shots with improved first-time shooting mechanics and firing beautifully timed passes with greater accuracy, placing the ball exactly where you want it.

With new player momentum physics the speed and weight of the player determines everything from the distance of a slide tackle and the power of a header to the severity of player collisions and the height of a player's jump. Plus, players now behave according to their physical attributes with larger, stronger players dominating collisions, battles for control of the ball, and position in challenges for two player headers.

3 out of 5 stars LAZY EA   December 1, 2008
    Ts Davis (England)
I have bought both games, and I have reviewed PES 2009 (look for dentistTubster). I cannot be bothered to review Fifa, but here is roughly what I think:

    - There are about 3 different ways to score:
    1) The through ball/lofted through ball followed by a tap of finesse shot if the keeper stays back, or a chip if he comes out.
    2) The set piece option - corners, free kicks and penalties.
    3) The classic PES goal - run to the byline, cut it back with the pass button and hammer it into the basically empty net whilst the keeper is still fishing about at the near post.

That is it. It is literally almost impossible to score outside the box, because you have to get the power perfect for it to go anywhere near on target, and the keepers are just far too good. And crossing just will never work, its a waste of posession. You have to get ahead of the full back, and then hope to god you have an unmarked guy in the middle, because no matter if you have the illegitimate child of Peter Crouch and Nwankwo Kanu in the centre, they will never ever win the header.

The passing system is sluggish and rubbish - you pass the ball only for it to trickle along the ground to the player. What kind of fun is that? There is nothing "crisp" about this - it is more like soggy bacon than crackling. Lobbed through balls go 20 yards too far. Using the skill button feels cheap, because the AI defenders get totally bamboozled... but trying to use it on a human player and nothing happens. In fact, you simply get tackled. It is gimmicky and a waste of time.

The graphics are barely changed from 08, although you do at least get different types of weather this time (what the hell were EA doing last time removing that particular feature?!) But barely anything else has changed, the physics is identical, there are maybe 10 more animations that you actually see and care about.

This game does have some good points - the aforementioned graphics, which are more realistic than PES, if a little plasticky. Also the music, a great EA mainstay, and the commentary are excellent. The PA announcer stays, and his sometimes hilarious comments are definitely a valuable contribution.

But overall, this game is very arcadey, and easy to get good at. You will end up playing guys online and find that everyone ranging from low points to high points will be just as good as you. Just buy PES.

5 out of 5 stars Want the latest games? Here's how to get them for a fiver   November 25, 2008

Christmas is coming so save your cash! Why purchase something you can get for a fiver.

Go to electronicgifts.co.cc and sign up. Complete ONE offer - I would recommend Gala Bingo (you know, the one Sharon Osborne advertises for on tv),as this is cheap and fun (and you might win some money in the process!)

If you really don't want to spend, there is a free Lovefilm trial.

All companies are well known so there is no risk involved- give it a go! I got my SatNav, Wii, PS3, iPod Touch and many other things this way, so don't miss out.

I was a sceptic once but now I am SO glad I gave it a chance. BBC approved this system on their Newsnight programme a while back.

Many items to choose from and they send your gift Free of charge.

i have bought fifa 09 and pes 2009 and without a doubt fifa 09 beats pes09 hands down. saying that pes 09 is not a bad game at all, fifa 09 is just perfect. the best part of fifa 09 is the online play and leagues. ther games run perfectly smooth with no lagging(something still common to pes09) and every game is different. the player likeness is perfect and the full licencing of teams is a great bonus. also for free i downloaded from the playstation store additional commentaries which are added to the game. this is a great bonus and i hope that they will continue to keep upgrading the commentary for free. all in all this is a great football game. if it does have any flaws i havent seen them yet and i dont think i will. pes 09 is also a great game but its just no where near the quality of this game. fifa 09 is a must buy
