Enjoyable to play! October 25, 2008 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
As always,Fifa 09 is very enjoyable.I was also pleased to see that EA SPORTS waited for the end of the Summer Transfer Window. The reason why I have marked this game down is because there are so many skills and features that they include on PS3 and Xbox 360.The first thing is you can't have control over the players goal celebration.I would really enjoy controlling my players delight. The second thing is that there are quite a few new skills that you can do for the PS3 and Xbox 360 and I would love to be able to trick defenders.Actually, there aren't any(apart from casual controls that I can't see the point in)new skills for the PS2 version. But overall I think that it is a fun game.
Super game for all FIFA lovers October 20, 2008 Chris L (Oxfordshire, England) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have FIFA 09 on PS2 and i think it's much better than any of the others. The graphics are better, and it's much more reallistic (especially the results of tackles). It's a shame the game is only spoiled by some bad commentary, but it's a must have. For any FIFA lover or if you are new to the game, go out and buy it. You don't need to spend hundreds of pounds on PS3's when you can thoroughly enjoy FIFA 09 on the good old PS2!
Can't really tell the difference October 17, 2008 James Rogers (Britain) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
i really was expecting a better game this time around, the prvious fifa was brilliant but was easy to get bored with after a few hours a week. so i hoped this game would offer something a bit different but its just like 08. i have also played on the xbox 360 version and found that there is a big difference between the 08 and 09 versions. so after playing this game 5 times i sold it, very very dissapointing fifa!
EA you promised so much...... October 16, 2008 Graytrfc (Birkenhead, UK) 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
Now firstly im not getting into the arguments about whether this is better than Pro Evo or not. I have only bought one previous football game and that is Pro Evo 4 which was a great game and kept me playing again and again. This however wont and ill explain why.... While Fifa 09 has a lot to be proud of, proper kits, up to date players and stadiums etc the main problem I felt was that it promised much but actually when you got down to the bare bones of the game, it delivers little. I'll give you an example when you choose to do a league campaign or take on a season, ideally what should happen is like the master league option on pro evo and you can decide if you want to (or it is mandatory to) take part in cup competitions. Here no such luck, you want to play a league? you play a league. A cup? thats all for you fella, your playing a cup. Now I know people will say but the option is to do it on the manager mode but surely the idea of being a manager is to NOT take part in the games but here you can play them too???? The modes kind of dont know what they want you to do. Now the much trumpeted "Be a pro" mode. Create yourself and take yourself to the top. Cool you'd think so wouldnt you? Im afraid no, four seasons only (why?) you cant transfer to other clubs if you get better so you pick yourself playing for eg Tranmere (my team) your stuck at tranmere for 4 years. Playing kits? Nope squad numbers are picked for you if someone happens to have your number. Boots? you can only pick out of ten basic varieties designed by the programmers so while all your other teammates run round in nike, lotto, umbro, adidas etc, you are stuck with something else. Is it not too much to ask to be able to pick a design that is on there already? or maybe approached for a boot deal built into the mode? Create your player to look like you?? Sure if you look like an extra from Bo Selecta, no matter what you do to your players face they all look the same, again another disappointment. Which sums up the problems with this game. As far as the playability goes and the detail in the players EA have it spot on, but I dont know what you would call it, lazyness maybe to get the game out before pro evo? but this just ruins this game. Things that are basic commodities on pro are overlooked here. Edit player is pointless. Make your own team? takes so long to create a player and every player looks the same so why would you bother? In summary, this is a poor game that only gets two stars purely because it plays ok and the existing teams and players look good. However for an immersive football game, look elsewhere. I was still playing pro evo 4 for 3 years after purchasing, this Ive had for a week and is going straight into the tradein bag ready for tomorrows launch of pro evo, im sorry to say.
Utter garbage October 14, 2008 Mr. P. P. Eaton (England) 2 out of 10 found this review helpful
After seeing last years Fifa get high scores in reviews and this one also, i decided to go for it, despite being a Pro Evo only game for the past 8 years. Immediately i was dismayed with the game. Comparing it last years Pro Evo was a complete joke. At the end of the day, Fifa might have the real kits and team names, but when it plays like this..you ain't gonna wanna play it for long. Graphically this game is complete sham, even by the Ps2 standards, it looks rubbish. The stats for players are far more simplified than Pro Evos and the game is just generally aimed at people who dont care about a games key details and factors which make it good or not. The camera angles are poor, the comentary is very repetitive and starts repeating itself within the first few minutes and the general sluggish gameplay is just no-where near the same quality of Pro Evolution! Wether it is like this on the Ps3 or 360 i dont know. I have both those consoles but being price concious i got the Ps2 version lol and im glad i did cus i think i saved myself some cash!
