Product Description Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training: "How Old Is Your Brain?" is the latest Japanese phenomenon on Nintendo DS - and now it's hitting Europe! If you're bored of playing games that don't stretch your brain cells and you'd like to give your grey matter an extensive workout, pick up this program. The tests have been devised in cooperation with Dr. Kawashima himself, a renowned neuroscientist. With Brain Training you can train both your mental awareness and your memory. Hold the DS vertically, like a book, and write your answers with the stylus on the touch screen. The exercises are quick challenges that help stimulate your brain. There's a combination of arithmetic, reading and memory tests, and the program calculates your score in the form of a 'brain age' by assessing the speed and accuracy by which you perform these simple tasks. The title has sold over 1.4 million copies in Japan and is hugely popular with young and old alike. And that's hardly surprising - because playing regularly for just a few minutes a day has been found to stimulate parts of the brain related to thinking, creativity and concentration. So if you want to tone your intellectual muscle, Brain Training is a fine way to get started!
Amazon.co.uk Review In a nutshell: The portable phenomenon that has taken Japan by storm finally hits the UK. Part puzzle game, part self improvement tool this is the only game that's both lots of fun and good for you - and that's before you even start on Sudoku! The lowdown: Nothing about this game is ordinary, from the price to the way you hold the DS while playing it (vertically, as if you were reading a book). The basic idea is that you play through a series of puzzles each day, for about 10 minutes, and at the end of each session the "age" of your brain is calculated. The puzzles themselves range from simple maths questions to spot the difference, memorisation and comprehension. All of the answers are inputted either by drawing the answer on the touchscreen or speaking it into the DS's in-built microphone. There's also a multiplayer mode for up to 15 people where you can try and compete to record the youngest brain age. Most exciting moment: A brand new addition to the game, not included in the Japanese version, is a special DS version of Sudoku. This works great on the DS's touch screen and is worth the already low price of admission on its own. Since you ask: A sister title to Brain Training, named Big Brain Academy, is due for release in July and offers to "weigh" your brain and improve specific skills such as memorisation and analysis. A direct sequel to Brain Training has also been released in Japan but is not yet scheduled for released in the UK. The bottom line: The only game that really is for the whole family - from kids to OAPs. Harrison Dent

Fun and addictive, but frustrating December 27, 2008 John This is a fun and interesting little "game". It's actually a collection of games, all of which are intended to test and improve your brain power. It certainly teaches you a thing or two, but it's not without its problems: One in particular is when you have to write things; often the software interprets my letters incorrectly (it has a habit of interpreting my "4" as a "2", my "9" as a "1" and my "r" as an "n"), which plays havoc with my score. Also, it has difficulty understanding strong regional accents. I have Midlands accent, so every time I take the test that requires you to say the names of the colours you see on the screen, it keeps saying "try again", even when I get them right! Still, it's worth a look.
Brain training December 5, 2008 Sonic I got this game recently and I have really enjoyed it. It definitely tests you and the daily sums are good to do. However I felt it was a bit limited. You don't have that many different games to choose from and I've found that because you have to clock up a certain amount of stamps to unlock other games, you may find yourself playing the same games over. The TV commercials do make it look like it has plenty to it. I like to use DS brain/strategy games however I think that this one might be a bit over rated.
It does improve your brain! November 26, 2008 Pete (UK) I've had this game a few weeks now and have improved a lot. I have always been rubbish with numbers and this has helped immensely. My reading hasn't really improved though :( Not that it's that bad... I'm not sure if the training has rubbed off into the real world yet, but at least I can see improvements by doing the daily training. It has a good range of daily training tests you can perform and the more days you train mean the more tests you can choose from. Also the better you get it adds a harder level to some of the tests. I don't use the voice recognition tests anymore as for me it does not recognise when I say black most of the time. And with the dreaded word memory test it does not recognise a lot of the letters I write. L turns into C! No matter how much I try to create a sharp angle... It has no trouble working out the correct number I enter though. One thing I would like to see changed is the hints and tips that you have to page through each time - it would be good to be able to switch that off. Overall I think it is a great product that I will use for quite some time.
Great!! November 20, 2008 This game is great! But the bad thing is that the graphics arn't that good their decent. But you can do sudokus, sums, memory games, eye check, read aloud and much more! If your up for a good challange this I defently recommend! But I should say that people from about 6 and over would think this game good, but younger would find it diffucult. BUY THIS GAME!!

This game is excellent fun to start with however I find some of the activities increadibly tedious. However for this price I would recomend this product.
